
The Westfield Ice Dogs Club, Inc., a Virginia corporation, is a nonprofit organization under IRS section 501 (c) 3. The corporation is organized for the purpose of promoting and encouraging educational and athletic success and excellence in teen aged high school and junior high student athletes.It provides opportunities for student athletes from 7th to 12th grade to learn and compete in a youth hockey league.
Westfield Ice Dogs Club is a member of the NVSHL (Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League) and USA Hockey. Ice Hockey is not a varsity sport recognized by the Virginia High School League and is therefore not a sanctioned varsity sport within the Fairfax County Public School System.
The Westfield Ice Dogs Club is recognized by Westfield High School as an Interest Club and receives no funding from the school. The club is staffed or comprised of all volunteer workers and each student pays a fee for participation in the league. The club will not actively promote student athletes to professional teams. Promotion and student-athlete participation is generated primarily through direct contact and networking with area high school guidance counselors, athletic directors, coaches and teachers. The Board of Directors oversees this activity and is not compensated for their time.
